Hyde Park Real Estate

Hyde Park is the southernmost neighborhood of the City of Boston that lies nearly 8 miles south of downtown. The area was first established in the 1660’s where it soon grew into a center for manufacturing paper and cotton in the 18th century. Later, Hyde Park became home to one of the largest fan manufacturing plants in the world where it employed many residents of the area. My Grandma’s Coffee Cake is still made locally here.

More recently in 2008, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) and Mayor Menino had worked on remapping and zoning the area. Efforts were made to protect the suburban feel of the area by limiting development with the presence of the Stony Brook Reservation. With the history of highway construction attempts during the middle of the 1900’s it has been clear that the strong sense of community in Hyde Park resists transforming the neighborhood from its suburban feel. Today, Hyde Park’s motto of “A Small Town in the City” has continued to draw residents who want to live in Boston yet have more of that suburban neighborhood feel. Transportation is made easy with the Commuter Rail while recreational opportunities like Blue Hills and the Stony Brook Reservation are great nearby destinations.
